Ana Latronico is Professor of Medicine (Department of Internal Medicine, Endocrinology and Metabology) at the School of Medicine, University of São Paulo (USP). She is also Head of the Endocrinology and Metabology Service, Hospital das Clínicas; Deputy Coordinator of the Graduate Program in Endocrinology at FMUSP, and Principal Researcher at the Laboratory of Hormones and Molecular Genetics LIM / 42 at USP Clinical Hospital. Prof Latronico is a full member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences.
Prof Latronico graduated in medicine at Faculty of Medical Sciences of Santos, Lusíada Foundation in 1987. She was Resident Physician at the Department of Medical Clinic / Endocrinology, Hospital das Clínicas (1988-1991), became a Specialist in Endocrinology and Metabology and then in Pediatric Endocrinology. She gained her PhD in Endocrinology from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo in 1995.
In 2003 Prof Latronico won the Richard E. Weitzman Memorial Award (2003) and has since gone on to be the recipient of many distinguished awards. She is author of more than 170 original manuscripts published in international and national journals, including 4 in the New England Journal of Medicine. Her main research focus is clinical and molecular aspects of precocious puberty, hypogonadotropic hypogonadism and adrenocortical tumors.
